Orthopedic K-Wires Instruments

gSource K-wires (Kirschner wires) are precision ground from certified implant German surgical stainless steel or titanium alloy and have clean, narrow ends that are machine ground for optimal penetration. They are sold in packages of 6 each and are available in both sterile and non-sterile packaging. Internal fixation devices such as K-wires are intended for single-use only and must not be reused. Available in a variety of lengths, diameter sizes and patterns, including smooth or threaded, as well as various tip ends such as double trocar, single trocar, double diamond, and single diamond. K-wires are used to help reduce and stabilize fractures, osteotomies and fusions and are considered a versatile tool for orthopedic and plastic surgeons.

The Importance of K-Wires

Kirschner wires are a less invasive way of treating breaks and fractures than the more traditional methods of inserting plates and screws through surgery. They are most common in wrist, hand, elbow, foot and ankle fractures, and their differences are influenced by a patient’s injury and skeletal architecture. They hold the bone together while it goes through its natural healing process so that it can return to optimal functioning. K-wires are an integral part of healing bones properly and come in various sizes and diameters.
